Rock Paper Scissors, Alice Feeney

🤯 mind blown! So what only 4 stars? Because the first 2/3 was so mundane and drudgery. But the last third, the first twist revealed why you needed to read the first two thirds, and then the next twist, geez. What great writing.

The beginning is about the letters written every year by the wife on her wedding anniversary. These letters start as most relationships do, all bubbly and full of hope, but as the years, and problems grow, so does the mood shift in the letters until, as the reader, I almost wanted to stop reading. I’ve been in unhappy relationships and have been miserable, and these letters made me squirm (which is great writing, but ugh.)

The next third of the books goes as follows:

Adam and Amelia are going away on a trip Amelia win at her work to a Scottish church (converted into a home). She hopes it will fix their marriage. He’s just being ornery and seemingly too unhappy to give the trip, or his wife, a chance.

The old church is in a desolate place, The snow is feet high, The power goes out and, well, strange things occur.

The twists and turns are fantastic, and for me, unseen. I loved it. Like, who is this incredible author and why have I not read your books before?

If you like a good whodunnit with a fun, unusual twist or three, check out Rock Paper Scissors.
